Star Trek TV Shows

The Original Series

Star Trek began in 1966 as a television series created by Gene Roddenberry. There have since been four more television series, nine feature movies and hundreds of books.. Every month a new Star Trek or Star Trek: The Next Generation book is published by Pocket Books. At least four Star Trek conventions are held every week somewhere in he United States. Star Trek conventions attract more than a million fans worldwide every year. In 1976, the space shuttle, was named The Enterprise, in response to requests from 400,000 Star Trek fans.

The original Star Trek series consisted of 78 episodes (plus a pilot) which ran from 1966 to 1969. The series told of the adventures of the crew of the Starship Enterprise on a five-year exploration mission.

"Beam Me Up, Scotty"
(Spoken by Piccard.) Contrary to popular belief, Kirk never used the phrase. He did say "Scotty, beam me up.", "Beam us up, Scotty" and "Beam me up, Mr Scott".

The Animated Series

The animated series ran for 22 episodes in 1973 and 1974. The scripts were written by established science fiction writers and the animated format allowed for more exotic aliens and locales than the original series. Most of the members of the cast of the original series provided the voices of their character. James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols and Majel Barret also played several alien characters.

The various Star Trek series and movies supposedly fit into an overall, coherent story. So far as that story is concerned, the events in the animated series did not happen.
