Australian rugby league stars in the Menzies Era included:

  • Clive Churchill (born 1927 in Newcastle, NSW)
    The "Little Master" was fullback for South Sydney from 1947 to 1958 and captain from 1950
    South Sydney won the Sydney Rugby League in 1950, 51, 53, 54 & 55
    and were runners-up in 1949 & 52
    He played 40 test matches for Australia from 1948 to 1953
    Australian captain from 1950 to 1953
    He was Australian coach in 1959-60.
    Clive Churchill died of cancer in 1985
     
  • Reg Gasnier (born 1939 in Sydney)
    Joined St George in 1958 and retired due to injuries in 1967
    St George won the Sydney Rugby League every year from 1955 to 66
    He played for Australia from 1959 and was captain from 1962 to 1967.
      
  • Johnny Raper (born 1939)
    Johnny Raper played 19 games for Newtown before joining St George as lock in 1959
    He remained with St George until 1968.
    St George won the Sydney Rugby League every year from 1955 to 66
    Johnny Raper played 33 test matches for Australia and was captain in 1968.

World Cup results during the Menzies Era:

  • 1954: Great Britain 16 beat France 12
  • 1957: Australia 
  • 1960: Great Britain 
  • 1968: Australia 10 beat France 2
  • 1970: Australia 12 beat Great Britain 7
  • 1972: Australia 10 drew with Great Britain 10
