Australian stars in horse racing in the Menzies Era included:

  • Scobie BreasleyArthur "Scobie" Breasley (born 1914 in Wagga Wagga, NSW)
    Scobie Breasley rode over a thousand winners in Australia and 2,161 in Britain.
    He rode over 100 winners in England each year from 1955 to 1964
    He won the British Jockeys' Championship in 1957, 61, 62 & 63.
    He retired in 1968 and became a horse trainer.
  • T. J. "Tommy" Smith (born 1918 near Braidwood, NSW)
    Tommy Smith rated as Sydney's leading trainer from the 1952-53 season until 1984-85.
    Trained over 100 winning racehorses in one season in 1962-63 and every season from 1966-67 to 1980-81
    He celebrated his 50th year as a trainer in 1991 with 4,162 Sydney metropolitan wins.
     
  • David H. "Darby" Munro (born 1913 in Melbourne)
    Rode winners in every important race in Australia between 1927 & 1955.
    He won 3 Melbourne Cups, 3 Sydney Cups, 5 AJC Derbys 5 Victoria Derby, 2 Doncaster Handicaps & 2 Epsom Handicaps.
    He retired in 1955 to become a trainer and died in 1966.
  • Bart CummingsJ.B. "Bart" Cummings (born 1927)
    Bart Cummings was the son of the successful trainer J Cummings.
    He trained over 2,000 winners including 10 Melbourne Cup winners commencing in 1965.
    (1965, 1966, 1967, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1990, 1991 & 1996)
    He trained 1st & 2nd in the Melbourne Cup four times (1965, 1966, 1974 & 1975).
